Reef Song
This fused glass artwork is a one-of-a-kind piece inspired by the surrounding waters of the Torres Strait Islands. Created in an impressionist style, it invites the viewer to imagine themselves immersed in these environments, like a diver moving through the water, witnessing its depth, movement, and life.
The work reflects the ocean as an environment that sustains both marine ecosystems and island communities, while highlighting the importance of protecting sea life. It draws attention to the impact of gas emissions and rising ocean temperatures, as coral reefs face ongoing bleaching. The delicate balance of these underwater habitats is increasingly at risk, threatening the biodiversity that depends on them.
Dimensions (including frame): 414 mm (L) x 333 mm (W) x 20 mm (D)
Lewa Glass acknowledges the traditional custodians of all the lands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. I honour the sovereign spirit of the children, their families, communities and Elders past, present and emerging. I also wish to acknowledge and respect the continuing cultures and strengths of Indigenous peoples across the world.
